The rustling of wind whistling through the trees awakens and soothes your senses. The trickling of water soothes your mind. Lots of birds flutter through the trees and sing. This is my backyard. Not yours. But to me, this is the best place to be on a cool spring day.
First off, my backyard is big. However, only about two-thirds of it is accessible to the world. Even then, is only one-third is flat and level. The rest, well, it is well, well forested. In other words, it’s a forest. In the fall, all the leaves turn golden brown to yellow. Pretty nice place — for me.
Next, there are the animals. From hawks to cardinals, from vultures to squirrels, there is a diversity of wildlife roaming through my backyard. This probably has something to do with there being a ginormous greenbelt behind the backyard. There is a rusty old racing car tire, old cinderblocks, rusty nails, about fifty ant piles, three-or-more types of grass, and a fast moving creek. Some are from the builders of our house, others someone put there, and still others are from nature. Obviously, there are a ton of weeds. Hey, they keep our lawn looking green. If you’re a nature person, this is for you.
I don’t think that my parents would appreciate strangers walking and sitting in our backyard, so please don’t come. However, there are plenty of similar and/or better views and animals near or around our house. So IF you dare, come and visit the coyotes. (And don’t get lost on the 100 or so miles of trails)
I like the possessiveness that echoes throughout the first paragraphs–great job conveying that sentiment.
I also love the listing of what’s in the “ginormous greenbelt” behind the backyard. Very effective elaboration!
You have great imagery in this post! It gave a great image in my mind.
Thanks.
